Dr. Jim Balthrop is the Quality Assurance Manager for the Office of the Texas State Chemist. He is responsible for developing and ensuring implementation of the quality management system that includes the quality assurance manual, SOPs, validation of laboratory procedures, managing the check sample program, record control, and verification that the laboratory procedures manual is current and followed. Jim also serves as the OTSC liaison for the Food Emergency Response Network and e-LEXNET. Prior to working for OTSC, Jim was a National Marine Fisheries Service Research Chemist and an instructor for TAMU Department of Biochemistry . Jim earned his BS in Biology from Abilene Christian College, Abilene, TX and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX.
