Profile

Megan K. Rooney joined the Office of the Texas State Chemist (OTSC) in June 2016 as an analytical chemist with a major focus on fumonisin. She assists in the toxin screens for FERN (Food Emergency Response Network) and has received training on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). As Senior Manager, Quality Assurance, she will continue her work in the lab as well as serve in a training capacity for individuals within OTSC and outreach to other labs. She will be responsible for developing and ensuring implementation of the quality assurance program for the Agricultural Analytical Services (AAS) and manage the ISO accreditation programs including ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17043, and ISO 17034.

Megan received her B.S. in Food Science from Texas A&M and her M.S. in Food Chemistry from University of Minnesota. She continued post graduate work in Cereal Chemistry at Kansas State University before heading back to Texas A&M. She is currently taking the graduate curriculum offered for Regulatory Science. Before joining the Office, Megan worked in a number of capacities: at Pillsbury as a researcher and product development scientist; at a private school as a chemistry, biology, and physics teacher; at home as a scrapbook and photography consultant; and in the community as a club manager for 4-H and a volunteer for FFA, Tiger Swimming, and Aggie Swim Club. She has received awards from Brazos County 4-H and was awarded 4-H Adult Volunteer of the year by Texas 4-H.
