Profile

Mary Sasser joined the Office of the Texas State Chemist (OTSC) in September 2010. As Associate Director of Programs she manages a team of fourteen Feed and Fertilizer Control Service (FFCS) Field Investigators who provide “boots on the ground” regulatory oversight for the Texas feed and fertilizer industries across the state. Mary leads the development and implementation of the annual FFCS plan of work, coordinates with the Agricultural Analytical Service (AAS), oversees process and technology improvements associated with the Animal Feed Regulatory Program Standards, manages funded projects and oversees the One Sample Strategy, a voluntary mycotoxin risk management program for corn distributors in Texas.

Mary received a BSc in Bioenvironmental Sciences from Texas A&M University and a Master of Applied Science in Technology Management from University of Denver. Her previous work includes serving as FFCS Manager of Field Operations, educational and training activities such as the online Feed Industry HACCP courses taught by OTSC Director and State Chemist, Dr. Tim Herrman; development and administration of online courses for the Regulatory Science Graduate Certificate; and support for the International Journal of Regulatory Science. Before joining the Office she served as Distance Education Coordinator for the Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
